Rockstar narrows down GTA 6 launch window to fall 2025

What just happened? One of the most anticipated video games of the decade is set to arrive next year, and now we have a more specific launch window to keep an eye on. In its latest earnings report, Take-Two stated that its previous Grand Theft Auto VI launch window of “sometime in 2025” has been updated to the fall of next year. Some expected the game in the first half of 2025, suggesting a delay might have pushed it to the latter half of the year.

The game is reportedly in the final stages of development. Back in February of 2024, the company ordered remote workers back to the office full time to help finish up the game and plug any potential leaks.

We have already had a couple of early looks at what Rockstar is cooking. In September 2022, a hacker posted more than 90 videos and screenshots of early development content from the game. Rockstar was ready to show its first trailer in December 2023, but someone beat them to the punch by a single day. That said, the leaks did little to damper excitement.

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said earlier this year that the development team is pushing for perfection rather than racing to get the game out to market as fast as possible.

Anyone that watched the first official trailer no doubt came away impressed. The game is set in the Miami-inspired Vice City, though this one takes place during modern times. From the photo realistic graphics to the on-point ties to modern society (extensive social media use could be a key gameplay element), this could very well be the most realistic sim-style game ever created. Rockstar would really have to go out of its way to screw up this this mega cash cow.

Even in its pre-launch stage, the game is already setting records. The trailer amassed more than 90 million views on YouTube in the first 24 hours and is up to nearly 191 million as of this writing.
